Balmashanner House, an 18th century country home, offers quality family Bed & Breakfast accommodation for tourists and business people on the outskirts of Forfar.

Our beautiful but central location will suit leisure, business, anglers, walkers, cyclists, shooting, and wildlife guests alike, we also accept dogs for a small fee. There are many places to walk your dogs within walking distance of our property off the main road allowing you to enjoy this beautiful countryside without any interruption of traffic.Keen golfers have access to the many golf courses including Carnoustie, St Andrews, and locally there is the Forfar, Arbroath, Montrose, Brechin, Edzell (discount vouchers available), Kirriemuir, Letham Grange Golf Clubs who accept day membership.

Aberdeen is 45 minutes away, and Glasgow and Edinburgh are less than 2 hours drive. Local towns include Kirriemuir (home of JM Barrie – Author of Peter Pan), Dundee and Perth. We are only 8 miles from Glamis Castle. Locally there are plenty of amenities which are only 5 minutes from Balmashanner.

Prices & Booking

Balmashanner offers both quality and excellent value for money with double & twin rooms available for just £25.00 per person per night including hot breakfast (see menu for details). Single Occupancy available in double and twin rooms for an additional £13.00 per night.

Single room £25.00 per night including breakfast.

Children under 3 are charged £6.00 per night and children aged 3 to 9 accompanied by two adults pay half price.


Dogs are welcome by arrangement for a small fee of £5.00 per night.

A fantastic place to stay. Worth it just for having huge breakfasts while waiting the parade of pheasants walking through the garden. But that would be to neglect the huge and lovely dinners cooked by Marie - and the beautiful house itself.
